Find the right Pilates practice for you by exploring the subtle differences between these classes
At their core, both reformer and mat Pilates share the same goal: to build strength, flexibility and control through mindful movement and breath.
Each focuses on posture, alignment and precision, helping you move better in everyday life. But the main difference lies in the experience...

What to expect in a mat class ✨
Mat Pilates is often seen as the foundation of the method. It teaches you how to engage your core, stabilise your spine and connect movement with breath.
At Sabai Studio, mat classes are perfect for both beginners and experienced clients looking to focus on form and technique.
Every exercise can be adapted to your ability, making it an accessible and rewarding way to build strength from the inside out.
What makes the reformer unique 🍃
Reformer Pilates takes those same principles, but adds resistance. The reformer’s springs, pulleys and gliding platform allow you to deepen your range of motion and activate muscles that can be harder to reach on the mat.
You can increase or decrease the resistance to suit your goals, from a gentle stretch to a full-body burn. It’s dynamic, low-impact and ideal for improving strength, posture and mobility.
Which one is right for you? 🌸
The truth is, both styles complement each other beautifully. Mat Pilates helps you master control and awareness, while reformer Pilates challenges you to apply those skills in new ways.
Many of our members enjoy mixing the two classes, finding that the combination brings noticeable improvements in strength, flexibility and confidence.
A quick recap 💡
Mat Pilates uses your body weight for resistance, while reformer Pilates introduces a moving carriage and adjustable springs that add an extra layer of challenge and support.
